Capsule Geology

The Art occurrence is located south of Forest Lake.

The area is underlain by Devionan serpentinite ultramafic rocks, greenstone and greenschist metamorphic rocks of the Lower Paleozoic Forest Lake unit of the Eagle Bay Assemblage. These have bene intruded by Devonian dioritic rocks.

Locally, scattered galena mineralization is associated with a quartz stockwork zone within quartz-sericite rocks.

In 1984, a sample (MD3-7) of ultramafic rock from the Midland 3 claim to the southwest assayed 0.200 per cent chromium and 0.199 per cent nickel (Assessment Report 13299).

In 1986, a previously collected float sample of black phyllite with limonitic quartz sweats and pyrite was reported to have assayed 1.4 grams per tonne gold and 2215 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 15613).

In 1972, Flint Rock Mines completed an 8.5 line-kilometre ground geophysical survey on the area as the Art claims. In 1978, Craigmont Mines Ltd. soil sampled the area immediately south as the FM 1-2 claims.

Short tunnels of unknown age are reported near the southeast corner of Forest Lake and approximately 700 metres north of the lake. In 1984, Midland Energy Corp. prospected and sampled the immediate area of the occurrence as the Midland 1-3 claims. During 1984 through 1986, Kenar Resources Ltd. completed programs of rock sampling, geological mapping and a ground electromagnetic survey on the area immediately south as the Kenar claims. In 1987, National Resources Explorations Ltd. completed a program of ground geophysical surveys on the area immediately south as the Lith 1-2 claims. In 1988, Diplomat Resources Inc. completed a soil sampling program on the area as the Sandy and Quincy claims. Also, at this time Trio Gold Corp. completed a program of soil sampling and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the Fraser claims.
